Research at the Translational Neuromodulation Laboratory will focus on two complementary objectives:
To better understand the neurobiological basis of major psychiatric disorders through the use of non-invasive neuromodulation (often in combination with functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging, and/or electrophysiology probes)- To carry out clinical trials aimed at assessing the efficacy/effectiveness and the safety/tolerability of both new and established neuromodulatory therapies for treating a number of psychiatric disorders.
The Translational Neuromodulation Laboratory will use the new Brain Imaging Centre (BIC) which houses a cutting-edge 3T magnetic resonance imaging scanner. The BIC also offers a wide range of complementary brain assessment techniques such as cerebral electrophysiology, physiological monitoring, and neuromodulation. The BIC will be inaugurated Spring 2012.
Future Students
Graduate and/or postgraduate students with a strong background in experimental and/or clinical research who are interested in the field of non-invasive neuromodulation are welcome to forward their CVs to neuromodulation_dot_douglas_At_gmail_dot_com
Knowledge transfer
The program transfers knowledge through teaching or training activities for health professionals, interns, and residents. For example:
- The organization of a 2010 Conference entitled “Recent Advances in Brain Stimulation”
- A 2-day, hands-on workshop on the use of non-invasive neuromodulation for treating psychiatric disorders. It is held twice a year.
