Profile

Hélène Racine joined the Douglas Institute as director of nursing, quality and risk management in August 2006.

She brings to the post over 15 years experience in developing interdisciplinary professional practices, as well as strong experience as a specialized clinician. Hélène Racine is dedicated to promoting clinical nursing competencies through teaching and research, to implementing top safety and care standards, and to fostering interdisciplinarity, knowledge transfer and continuing education, in line with the Douglas’ University Institute in Mental Health status.

A strong proponent of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Hélène Racine continues her work with patients suffering from psychosis and is involved in the training of residents, students and professionals at the McGill University Health Centre, CBT Unit, as a teacher and supervisor.

Hélène Racine is a member of the Commission Infirmière Régionale de Montréal, in charge of advising the Agence de la santé et des services sociaux on the organization, distribution, and integration of nursing personnel, and of promoting quality in nursing services delivery for Montréal.

Hélène Racine obtained a Bachelor of Nursing degree from McGill University, a Master of Nursing degree from the Université de Montréal and a Master of Public Administration degree from the École nationale d’administration publique (ENAP).

Awards and Distinctions
2006 to 2009 recipient of a $300,000 Canadian Institutes of Health Research grant, along with colleagues from the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and Hôpital Louis-H. Lafontaine, for the project called: “Recherche-intervention-évaluative visant l’optimisation des soins, des services et du travail en santé mentale”. The ultimate goal is to evaluate the impact of changes in mental health organizations on patients and personnel.
