April 16, 2014 -They worked hard on it, now is time to enjoy the results. Last fall, children and teenagers treated at the Douglas Institute collectively created two large paintings under the guidance of renowned Quebec painter-sculptor Armand Vaillancourt. The edges of these two canvas were later completed at the launch of the public phase of the Invest in Healthy Minds Campaign, when Mr. Vaillancourt gave guests the opportunity to “leave their mark” on Douglas history.

The Artist in Chief was very pleased with the results. With his wife, he came to officially inaugurate one of the two pieces of art, which is now hanging in the front entrance of the Perry Pavilion at the Douglas Institute. Douglas art therapist Francine Lévesque, and Suzanne Bélanger, Executive Director of the Douglas Foundation, were also present. Everyone congratulated the young artists.

“Art keeps me young, always fresh”, said Armand Vaillancourt, who then led the youth to sing a song. Everyone then enjoyed a snack prepared for the occasion.

The second canvas was donated to the Child Psychiatry Department as a sign of gratitude.

Here are a few pictures of the day the pieces of art were created:
