As Douglas employees, you are part of the Douglas Family. Your contribution acts as leverage allowing us to raise a total of almost 2 million dollars, last year, in the community. External donors are motivated to support the Douglas when they see that those closest to us to give.

Here are some concrete examples of how your donations changed lives in recent years…
Improving patient care and environments; Promoting recovery
- A new information center as part of PEPP (Prevention and Early Intervention Program for Psychoses) for young people confronted with a first episode psychotic;
- A gazebo for the Stearns Pavilion for children treated at the Douglas;
- A Therapy Garden for Alzheimer's and elderly out-patients of the Moe Levin Day Center;
- Within the framework of PEPP, a program to help families adapt to the long-term consequences of psychotic disorder in a child;
- Four luminotherapy machines for the Bipolar Disorders Program;
- Rehabilitation activities to assist discharged patients;
- Pilot project for a community-based clinic to evaluate young people at risk;
- Pilot project for a community-based clinic to evaluate young people at risk;
- Air conditioning for patients' rooms and clinical areas;
- Films and Web resources for PEPP Program patients and their families;
- New utensils, dishes and chairs for the Eating disorders program;
- Toys for children who visit hospitalized family members;
- A new assessment and visual tool for evaluating patients and families associated with the Depressive Disorders Program.
Prevention and Education:
- The Info-Trauma Web site is a unique reference and diagnostic tool for victims of traumatic events, their loved ones and healthcare professionals. It also provides on-line training for 2,500 healthcare professionals from the Ministry of Health and Social services;
- Canada's first Mini-Psych school aimed at raising public awareness about mental illness. Mini-Psych is in its 4th year and has been broadcast to millions of viewers on Canal Savoir;
- A Mental Health Awareness campaign on anorexia and burn-out; (www.lanorexiesesoigne.com, www.leburnoutsesoigne.com)
- A major conference on fighting stigma surrounding mental illness.
Advancement of knowledge through research:
- Construction of the Neurophenotyping Center to study the interaction between genes and the environment, and how these interactions contribute to the development of mental illnesses;
- Research to support and improve care and ultimately prevent suicide among youth
- The study of the millions of cells that make up the human brain in order to understand how psychiatric illnesses disrupt the functioning of these cells.
This year, your contribution will bring comfort and security to patient rooms and living spaces, making them less hospital-like and more like home. It will help build outdoor spaces and shelters so patients can go outside and enjoy fresh air in comfort.
