A general practitioner from Haiti comes for training at the Douglas Institute
This summer, the Douglas Institute welcomed a general practitioner from Haiti. Dr. Fred Donatien Ulysse was at the Douglas for the entire month of August to receive training at the Intensive Care Unit under the supervision of Dr. Hani Iskandar.

"Young general practitioners in Haiti lack knowledge, and this type of activity will be an asset in our daily practice," explained Dr. Ulysse.

Dr. Marc Laporta, Director of the Montreal WHO Collaborating Centre at the Douglas Institute, wants to repeat this collaboration in the future and would like to see it governed by a formal training program with the Haitian ministry of health. "There needs to be investment in training for professionals in primary health care, and not just for doctors but also nurses and community workers."

Dr. Ulysse's visit was such a success that the Douglas is organizing a visit for a new cohort of doctors for 2013.
