Silent Majority. Isolation. Stigma. Suffering in Silence. Loss of Freedom.
The fear of the unknown or of being judged can sometimes be a barrier to counselling. Education is therefore critical to improving our understanding, shaping mental health policies, promoting prevention and recovery, and destigmatizing mental illness. See how your gifts helped the Douglas Institute Foundation reach this goal.

Info-Trauma: Your Generosity Helps Change Lives
In May 2009, the Info-Trauma Web site was created to demystify post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and provide a reference and diagnostic tool for victims of traumatic events, their loved ones and health professionals.

“I suffered from CO2 poisoning four years ago while driving my car. I constantly relive the event in my mind. One year after it happened, I started having panic attacks. I'm
depressed. I sometimes think about suicide. When I heard about the Info-Trauma Web site, it gave me hope that I might be able to come to grips with my problem. The site was
informative and made me realize that I need help and, most of all, that I'm not alone in this.” - Louise, victim of a traumatic event and user of the Info-Trauma blog

Better Treatments Hinge on Better Understanding
Not only is the Info-Trauma Web site a support tool for many victims, it is also used to train health professionals. In fact, 2,500 employees from Quebec's Department of Health and Social Services will take an online continuing education program to learn how to diagnose PTSD using a validated semi-structured interview.

Increasing Accessibility: Your Generosity Can Touch Still More Lives
With the Web being the most popular communications medium used by youth, the Info-Trauma team is hoping to expand the site's tools and resources—such as providing a self-diagnostic tool via a cell phone application—to better respond to this group's needs.
