The Psychosocial Rehabilitation helps adults of any age with a severe mental disorder return to and stay in the community.

The Wellington Centre


The Wellington Centre is a program comprising the Douglas Institute's psychosocial rehabilitation and community support services for people with mental health disorders.

Its mandate aims to:

  • Develop social and community opportunities that allow people to take on concrete and meaningful roles within society
     
  • Demystify mental illness and raise awareness about recovery and social inclusion of people with mental health disorders

Recovery support services

The Wellington Centre offers a variety of services designed to support recovery by helping individuals live a normal, meaningful life in their community, based on their personal choices.

Welcoming and Consultation Committee


Assists people upon referral with the following interactions:

  • Welcome interview
  • Orientation to programs offered
  • Referral to other community resources
  • Individual follow-up, as required

The members of this committee are available to answer questions from other healthcare workers.

Wellness services

Offers creative and community integration activities designed to help individuals regain healthy habits that promote recovery.

  • Les Impatients de Wellington art workshop
  • Choir
  • Music therapy
  • Woodworking workshop
  • Cooking in Café l’Expertise
  • Horticulture in the greenhouses
  • Introduction to computers

Work integration services

Helps individuals integrate into the labor market by offering them assistance and support. These services include intensive support and social coaching along the path to employment.

  • Individual Placement and Support (IPS) program for clients referred by the Douglas Institute
  • Social assistance and support program (PAAS-Action) positions: Wellington boutique, Resource Centre and jobs in graphic design, communications, housekeeping, cafeteria, horticulture, carpentry, administration, reception, etc.

Educational services

Helps individuals pursue their academic path in order to obtain a high school diploma.

  • Wellington Centre's French adult education program (Secondary I to V in French and Mathematics)
  • Social intergration services offered by school boards (CSDM and Lester B. Pearson)

Therapeutic and personal growth groups

Offers learning methods to help individuals gain information and knowledge that supports them on their personal path to recovery. Various groups include:

  • Self-esteem and awreness
  • Relaxation
  • Recovery, health and well-being orientation
  • Budget management

Peer helper service

Counseling and coaching services designed to help individuals identifiy their rights and personal paths to recovery.
