Business Hours


Regular business hour are Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 16:30. The animal facility provides animal care services on daily basis including holidays and weekends. For any question, special request or concern about animal care services after regular hours please contact the animal facility supervisor:

Douglas Animal Facility Access – Instructions

To gain access to the animal facility these conditions should be completed:


  1. Your name is on at least one valid and approved animal protocol from McGill University.
  2. You have read the theory animal training course and successfully pass the exam.
  3. You have received all appropriate practical animal training.
  4. You have come to the animal facility to watch the video on basic sanitary and security procedures required to work at the Douglas Institute

Education and training

How to register for the practical animal use workshop

Workshops at the Douglas animal facility

As a general rule, a Douglas workshop will only be conducted if a minimum of 3 candidates register. From the day this threshold has been met, animal facility staff guarantees to conduct the workshop within 3 weeks. The likelihood for a workshop to take place is highest during the months of May-June and Sept-Oct).

When you contact the supervisor, please specify which workshop would be needed (mouse and/or rat), the name of the person(s) and the fund to be charged for the fee.

Cancellation policy : If a registered person does not show up at the workshop or cancels within less than 48hrs prior to the workshop, fees will be charged to the full amount. Late arrivals (>5min) cannot pass the workshop.

Room reservations

All animal procedures should be done inside the animal facility. To reserve a surgery room, a procedure room, a behavioral room or a perfusion room for your animal experiment, please contact the Facility animal care committee (FACC) coordinator:

Animal orders


All animal orders must be submitted through Darwin. To get access to Darwin please contact:

For Charles River animal order
To receive your animal order on the next day, Please take note that you have to send your animal requisition via Darwin before noon; otherwise your animal order will be placed the next day.

For Jackson Laboratory animal order
Jackson sends mice one time per week (each Tuesday); please submit your animal requisition via Darwin anytime during the week before Friday morning (Ideally before noon on Thursday) if you want to received your order the week after.

Animal Import and Export

Animal Import

Rodents to be imported from a non-commercial or non-approved source must be approved for import prior to shipment.

To request the import of rodents from non-commercial or non-approved sources, please use the Import Request Form.

Animal Export

Animal Export for a local transport, North American or International should be approved by the receiving Institution animal facility. To request Exportation, please use the Export form.
