The Douglas Mental Health University Institute presents two Frames of Mind movie/discussion nights, May 7 to 9, at the Cinéma du Parc. First on Thursday May 7, Polytechnique and then on Saturday May 9, Maman est chez le coiffeur.

Actress and associate producer Karine Vanasse, will participate in the post-screening discussion, as she saw this as an opportunity not only to hear audience reactions and comments first-hand but also to talk about this tragedy that deeply affected all of Quebec society, 20 years ago. Will also be part of the discussion: Alain Brunet, PhD, a psychologist and researcher who specializes in post-traumatic stress disorder at the Douglas Institute and Pascale Brillon, PhD, from the anxiety disorders clinic at Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur, author of the book "Comment aider les victimes souffrant de stress post-traumatique".

How can we recover from these kinds of tragedies?
The panel members will talk about what individuals and society can do to best recover from the human dramas that lead some people to experience post-traumatic stress disorder.

This film is for those aged 13 and older. Scenes of violence.

Maman est chez le coiffeur – Saturday, May 9
The second night will feature Maman est chez le coiffeur directed by Léa Pool. The discussion will be attended by Jean-François Bélair, MD, a psychiatrist specialized in anxiety and affective disorders who works with adolescent patients and their families at the Douglas Institute and by Isabelle Hébert, the film screenwriter.

Ariane Émond will be hosting the discussions following the screenings. Ariane Émond is an independant journalist and she has worked with Le Devoir and Radio-Canada. She has also contributed to over fifteen documentary films in Quebec. She writes for La Gazette des femmes and regularly hosts public debates.
