Publication of a reference book input from Johanne Renaud, MD, M.Sc., FRCPC

2010-12-07

Police officers are increasingly called on as first responders to resolve situations involving persons in distress who could cause harm to themselves or others; as a result, they are focusing increasingly on using communication to defuse the conflict.

This book, in French, aims to provide a better understanding of crisis events and the approaches needed to interact with individuals in a crisis or their victims. It will be of interest not only to police officers but also to anyone working in crisis intervention, including mental health professionals.

Johanne Renaud, Director of the Youth section in the Depressive Disorders Program at the Douglas Institute, was recruited to help write a chapter on personality disorders, in which she describes the key characteristics of borderline personality disorder.

Some twenty North American and European researchers and practitioners participated in this 650-page book, under the direction of Michel St-Yves and Peter Collins. The book can be purchased through Éditions Yvon Blais.
