During the 14th Congress of the International Psychogeriatric Association, Serge Gauthier, MD, was awarded the 2009 Prix d’excellence from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

The Prix d’excellence is a regional award given in recognition of a Fellow’s longstanding commitment to the health and well-being of individuals and society.

Serge Gauthier is well known for his research on dementia and for his outstanding contributions to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for Alzheimer's disease and other dementing disorders.

The Prix d’excellence of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is awarded once a year and is based on ethical practice, profession-led regulation, and high personal standards of behaviour.
