To find out more about the expectations and needs of people with anxiety disorders, Michel Perreault, PhD, and his team turned to the Web. Between April and November 2008, an extensive Web-based consultation process was announced and made available through hyperlinks posted on the following sites:

  • Phobies-Zéro
  • Revivre
  • Association des Troubles Anxieux du Québec
  • Douglas Institute
  • Hôpital L.-H. Lafontaine
  • Association Canadienne en Santé Mentale

Mass mailings were sent out to promote participation in the study (list of the Société Québécoise de Recherche en Psychologie and list of a student association at UQÀM). Brochures and ads were also distributed in Montreal's Francophone universities and in specialized anxiety disorder clinics.

Results

The consultation proved to be successful. More than 700 individuals completed the questionnaire that was made available via the Web sites of the different partners of the study. Of this number, 635 were persons having an anxiety disorder, and 61 were caregivers. They expressed and described the difficulties encountered when trying to access resources that could offer treatment. The results are analyzed in the following publications:
