July 23rd was quite a special day at the Douglas Institute, as it was the annual PEPP knowledge sharing day. This festive event, now in its fourth year, allows researchers, clinicians, patients and their families to meet and share their knowledge and respective experiences.

Dr Ridha Joober and Dr Ashok Malla greeted everyone.  As the participants, including our Executive Director Lynne McVey  listened with keen interest, Dr Joober talked about stress, the topic chosen for discussion this year. We all experience some stress, sometimes acute, sometimes long-term. It has an impact on our body as well as our mind and mental health. The good news is that there are ways to reduce stress, be it relaxation, art, or talking with people we trust.

Testimonies

A mother explained to all how she copes with stress, using yoga and various relaxation methods. Also among testimonies given, a young man, Mathieu Bouchard, had a strong message of hope. After going through a very difficult period in his life, he was able to find health again by going deep down into himself and finding out who he really was. Yes it is possible to get better and to lead a rich and joyful life.

At noon, clients, families and staff gathered at PEPP’s Wilson Pavilion for a barbecue and pot-luck. Several activities were held during the early afternoon as the sun came out, to everyone’s pleasure. It was quite a great day!

See you next year for the fifth anniversary of the event.
