Douglas Institute researchers and their students have received awards and distinctions for their contributions to research and the advancement of knowledge in mental health.

1999

Prix André-Dupont : Judes Poirier PhD, C.Q.
The Prix André-Dupont is annually awarded by the Club de Recherches Cliniques du Québec (CRCQ) to recognize the excellence of biomedical studies by a young researcher with no more than 10 years' experience in independent research.
Senior editor in the medical anthropology section for the Social Sciences & Medicine journal : Duncan Pedersen MD, MPH
He is named senior editor in the medical anthropology section for the highly regarded Social Sciences & Medicine journal, which is published by Elsevier Science in Oxford, England.

CCNP Innovations in Neuropsychopharmacology Research Award : Judes Poirier PhD, C.Q.
The Innovations in Neuropsychopharmacology Research Award is designed to recognize innovative research in neuropsychopharmacology. It shall be presented annually for work done primarily in Canada by Canadian scientists unless there is, in view of the Awards Committee, no qualified nominee.

National Alliance for the Mentally Ill Exemplary Psychiatrist Award : Mimi Israël MD, FRCPC
The physicians are being honored for their contributions to greater public understanding of brain disorders, outspoken work to eliminate stigma, or efforts to fight discriminatory policies against people with severe mental illnesses.

CIHR Senior Scientist Career Award : Michael Meaney C.M., PhD, C.Q., FRSC
This award is presented by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) for research on stress.
Joey and Toby Tanenbaum Distinguished Scientist Award : Samarthij Lal
This award is presented by the Fondation canadienne de la recherche en psychiatrie to a Canadian researcher who distinguished himself internationally in his investigation of causes, psychopathology, treatment and prevention of schizophrenia.
Prix Acfas – Léo-Pariseau : Rémi Quirion O.C. PhD C.Q. FRSC
The Prix Léo-Pariseau from the Acfas was established in 1944 to honour the contribution of individuals working in the biological or health sciences.
Prix des médecins de cœur et d’action de l’Association des médecins de langue française du Canada : Diane B. Boivin MD, PhD
Award given to highlight the quality of the work and dedication of a physician.
